Technology
Recent advancements in technology have revolutionized glass imaging and printing. Until now, complex images or patterns on glass were primarily achieved with a vinyl overlay that fades, peels and cracks over time. The results are substandard products that are expensive to maintain and require frequent replacement. Though more basic images can be achieved with screen printing, the costs of the screens are prohibitive for one-off projects or even small production runs. With our state of the art printer and custom frit inks designed specifically for glass printing, images and text are directly applied then fused into the glass. The result is a photorealistic image that never fades, never peels and never cracks.
The process begins with image preparation. Our design group will work with your image file and prepare it for transfer to our fully automated digital printer. Using state of the art equipment, the glass substrate is precision cut, edged, polished and washed before transfer into our specialized cleanroom for printing. After printing, the glass is sent to the tempering furnace. Here it is heated to approximately 600 degrees Celsius allowing the ink particles to fuse with the glass. This curing process permanently bonds the image to the glass and adds strength and durability.
